Game Industry Career Guide.

Recently I contributed a few thoughts for a text book entitled "The Game Industry Career Guide".

To be honest I was completely blown over when they asked me to be apart of this. When I was in school I think I read every book I could find with any insight on how to get a job in the industry. I'm honored to be able to contribute.

I still cannot shake this feeling of irony though. I'm pretty sure that there is going to be some student out there that is going to draw an eye patch, or horns on my picture. Much like I did when I was sitting through lectures in school. Just shows that things go in full circle I suppose.

And a close up.

The gloves are coming off!

I've grown to really enjoying the process of creating animation tests. It's a great time to explore ideas creatively, while not being tied down to a specific style or story sequence. It's refreshing to experiment with random ideas to see how things turn out. For the good or bad.

This was a test I created at work during some down time. I wanted to animate super hero's doing cool super hero powers. However I did not want to use any type of heavy effects in the process. I think I am attracted to those types of hero characters in comics and movies. The ones that don't shoot laser beams, telekinesis or some other form of kinetic energy they manipulate. It just seems as if the power that they are using becomes the attention, and they are simply the vessel that it is channeled through.

Ok... Enough of the geek speak.

Enjoy!

The Butterfly Garden

I've been working on a short film for almost 2 years now. Glad to say that I am FINALLY working on the final render look. It really has been an interesting adventure working on everything starting from story, all the way to final render. This was the first time I ever attempted to work on environment modeling, texturing, or cloth sim, I really came away with a solid appreciation for what goes into it. That stuff is HARD!

Here's a screen shot to show to show off what the final look will be.

And here is the film with completed animation, enjoy!

And another one

I had an absolute blast animating the avatar character I posted last week, which is why I jumped at the chance when they asked me to do another one!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of working with these characters is the creative freedom to animate almost anything I want. In both cases I was given a prop to work with and was told "make something cool". Of course I had to stay within the style created for these characters, but outside of that it was free reign. In this case I was handed a boom box prop to coincide with the release of Band Hero. Naturally the only thing I could think of was to have the Avatar break dance. This prop and animation is available today on the Xbox marketplace.

Enjoy~

Geeetar Heroics!

A few weeks ago I had the awesome opportunity to animate a guitar hero prop for the Xbox 360 avatar market place. I really like the fun design of these characters, they have a great sense of charm and fun. I had a blast animating him.

They came from OUTER SPACE!!!!!

I created a short little animation for Nickelodean's "15 second of fame".

Enjoy!

And here's some concept sketches I put together to get the feel of the robot's design.
